Create and manage patrol routes

Use Routes to plan patrol stops, share instructions with security officers, and track progress from the Pulse dashboard. You can arrange stops manually or use Build Intelligent Route to organize them by location.

Create a route template

  1. Select Routes in the left sidebar.

  2. Select New Template.

  3. Choose how to build your route:

    • Manual setup: Add sites in the order you want officers to visit them.

    • Build Intelligent Route: Add your starting location, ending location, and stops. The system uses site addresses to suggest an efficient order.

  4. Enter a name for the route.

Build an intelligent route

  1. Select the starting and ending locations. You can use the same location for both.

  2. Add the stops between those locations. You can add them in any order.

  3. Review the suggested order and map, including any estimated time and distance savings.

  4. Select Create draft with this order.

You can rearrange the stops after the suggested order is created.

Set the schedule and stop details

Set the route’s scheduled start time, end time, and days of the week. These times are used for notifications about late starts and late completion.

For each stop, you can add:

  • Notes: Instructions of up to 140 characters that appear in the officer’s route list, such as “Arrive with your patrol lights on” or site access information.

  • A deadline: A target time for visiting that site. The deadline appears in the route list, and designated personnel can receive a notification if it is missed.

Add pre-trip and post-trip instructions

Use Field Guidance to share instructions officers should follow before and after the route. You can include text, photos, and videos.

For example, pre-trip instructions might ask officers to inspect the vehicle for exterior damage, confirm the interior is clean, and check dashboard gauges. Reference photos can show the angles to use when documenting the inspection.

Post-trip instructions might ask officers to return equipment and refuel the vehicle for the next shift.

Configure access and notifications

Assign the route to specific security officers or an access group to control who can access it.

Choose which personnel should receive notifications when:

  • A route is not started on time.

  • A route is completed late.

  • A site deadline is missed.

Start and complete a route as a security officer

  1. Open the route and review the pre-trip instructions, stop list, notes, and deadlines.

  2. Select Start Route. The route is assigned to you as its owner.

  3. Select Navigate for a stop to open directions in your maps app.

  4. Open the site and document activity to record the visit.

  5. Return to the route list to confirm that the site displays a checkmark and visit time.

  6. Continue through the remaining stops and follow the post-trip instructions.

  7. Select Complete Route when finished.

What happens if some stops haven’t been visited?

If you select Complete Route with unvisited stops, the system shows how many sites you have visited and warns that the route will be marked Incomplete. You must provide a reason to finish the route as incomplete.

The reason is for internal documentation and is not shared with clients.

Monitor routes from Pulse

  1. Open the Pulse dashboard.

  2. Expand the right sidebar and select Routes.

  3. Choose a status tab:

    • Not Started

    • In Progress

    • Incomplete

    • Completed

  4. Select a route to view its details.

For an in-progress route, you can see the officer servicing it and how many properties have been visited. The route details include:

  • An interactive map showing site locations and visited stops.

  • A timeline with visit times and any site deadlines.

  • The number of stops remaining.

Admins can also mark a route as incomplete from the route details. A reason is required and remains internal.
